Although the symptoms of PCOS can differ from woman to woman seborrheic dermatitis is considered to be a marker for this disorder
Increased androgen levels can be responsible for acne, male pattern baldness, acanthosis nigricans, hirsutism, skin tags and dandruff (seborrheic dermatitis).
Hormone imbalance (excess androgens) can play a role in causing dandruff (seborrheic dermatitis) The imbalance
causes sebum to break down into irritants like oleic acid
These imbalances have been shown to cause dandruff in teens and adults alike. Initial appearance of symptoms usually comes at the time of adolescence when hormonal changes take place.
The subaceous oil glands tend to work overtime. The oil production occurs as a result of hormonal increase, mainly in the male androgen hormones (testosterone).
This imbalance causes greasier skin and scalp, which helps the dandruff flakes stick together.
The flakiness is also increased with stress. Premenstrual stress, being connected to hormonal balances, also fluctuates the severity of flaking.
Seborrheic dermatitis usually affects the scalp but can be present on other parts of the body that have sebaceous oil glands.
Common symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis include:
Inflammation of the skin (redness)
Patchy scaling or thick crusts on your scalp
Yellow or white flakes (dandruff) on your hair, eyebrows, beard, scalp, or mustache
Itching or soreness of the skin
Red, greasy skin covered with white or yellow flakes or scales on the upper chest, face, armpits, in your groin area, back, sides of the nose, behind the ears, and on the back.
Some treatment options:
Seborrheic dermatitis is affected by stress and fatigue so reducing those factors can definitely have a positive effect on the condition.
Keep hair and scalp clean
so that dead cells do not accumulate. It is important to brush hair everyday. It imptoves blood circulation and removes any flakiness.
Cut down sugar
A diet high in sugar can make dandruff worse in some people. Dandruff is often attributed to the Candida yeast, and sugary foods promote the overgrowth of this yeast in the body.
monitor good allergens
Food allergies to dairy products or wheat can cause dandruff in some people. Try elimination of possible irritants to see if dandruff diminishes
Try products without DHT (dihydrotestosterone) a derivative of testosterone which can aggravate dandruff and hair loss symptoms
Zinc
can be an effective supplement tp control sebum production. With taking Zinc, it requires vitamin B6 for proper absorption in the intestines
Apple Cider Vinegar
This treatment involves mixing ¼ cup of water with ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar and pouring the contents into a spray bottle. Squirt onto your hair and scalp making sure to avoid your eyes and ears.
Leave in your hair by wrapping in a towel for a minimum of 15 minutes up to an hour. Repeat this home remedy one to two times per week.
Allicin
is a potent compound found in garlic, onions and scallions.. When crushed.. it is helpful for people with dandruff due to its anti-fungal properties.
B Vitamins
Eat plenty of foods rich in B vitamins. Evidence shows that B6 (pyridoxine) and B12 (riboflavin), can help reduce dandruff
