The less common know symptoms of PCOS

We often hear about things like irregular periods, acne, weight gain etc.. as associated symptoms of pcos but, there may be some that surprise you!

Symptoms related to PCOS can include:


Aggressiveness
Increased levels of testosterone which is common with #PCOS can trigger symptoms of aggression.

Breast milk production
Mothers with #PCOS are at greater risk for insufficient milk supply due to imbalanced hormones and estrogen dominance

Approximately 20% of moms with PCOS have an oversupply of breast milk
due to elevated prolactin levels

Bladder problems
high testosterone levels associated with #PCOS may cause increased urinary urgency, incontinence and a need to urinate at night.

Bloating
Estrogen is directly associated with fluid retention. A lot of patients with #PCOS have an excess of estrogen and deal with bloating as a result.


Blurred vision
Blurred vision can signal insulin resistance. Too much glucose in your blood can cause the lens of your eye to swell, distorting vision

Bowel problems
A 2009 study found 42% of patients with #PCOS have IBS. Only 10% of women without PCOS have IBS. 

Breast tenderness
In some patients with #PCOS Breast tenderness can occur due to estrogen excess also known as estrogen dominance.

Brittle nails
With #PCOS Changes in hormones could cause the nails to become drier, more porous, or brittle, when glucose attaches to collagen proteins in the nail

Chest pain
With #PCOS there is a high prevalence of oxidative stress, anxiety and panic attacks.. all can cause chest pain with PCOS

Dizzy spells
Hypoglycemia after eating is common with #PCOS, Low blood sugar can cause symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, shaking, perspiration and intense sugar cravings.

Dry eyes
Many patients with #PCOS suffer from dry or itchy eyes due to excess androgens like testosterone and/or insulin resistance.

Dry mouth
With #PCOS  the risk of dry mouth is increased as a result of increased blood sugars and decreased saliva flow.

Extreme cravings
Cravings especially sugar and carbs is due to elevated insulin with #PCOS  and is directly related to our blood glucose levels.

Fatigue
Often with #PCOS when we eat our sugars spike due to insulin , then quickly fall, leaving us feeling tired, lethargic and restless

Fluid retention
The imbalance if hormones progesterone and estrogen along with low grade inflammation cause many with #PCOS to retain fluids

Headache
Estrogen, progesterone and even testosterone levels can fluctuate significantly with #PCOS . These hormone fluctuations can cause headaches.

Heart palpitations
Hormone imbalances can cause heart palpitations. Insulin resistance inparticular can trigger hypoglycemia and palpitations.

Hot flashes
Anovulation (not ovulating), amenorrhea  (not menstruating) and hormones can trigger the body to respond as if in perimenopause and as a result cause hot flashes

Increased thirst
With #PCOS When your body detects a rise in glucose, it signals the body to rid this by increasing thirst to flush them out.

Joint pain
Most patients with #PCOS have low grade inflammation. This inflammation is often systemic and can cause pain in joints and muscles

Leg cramps
Many with #PCOS suffer from
calcium( Vitamin D) and/or magnesium deficencies .. when these are low, it can cause leg cramps.

Muddled mind
can be associated with low grade  inflammation, a potential marker of PCOS

Night Sweats & Excessive sweating
Excessive sweating is known as hyperhidrosisis. This may happen because your metabolism is out of balance from too much Glucose or hyperandrogenism

Panic attack
60% of patients with #PCOS have mood disorders including panic attacks. This is usually a sign of androgen excess or hormone imbalance

Sleeping disorders
Patients with PCOS are 30% more likely to suffer from sleep disordered breathing and excessive daytime sleepiness associated with insulin issues.

Tingling fingers and toes
Many patients with #PCOS suffer from Vitamin B12 deficiency. This can cause tingling and numbness in your hands and feet..

With PCOS Insulin Resistance can lead to Weight Gain, Cold Hands/Feet, Fatigue and poor circulation which can increase numbness and tingling in your extremities. 

Unexplained weight gain
With #PCOS High androgen levels and insulin resistance can lead to  unexplained weight gain, regardless of caloric intake and exercise.

Vaginal dryness
In some patients with PCOS, especially thin, estrogen and/or testosterone levels may be low causing symptoms like vaginal dryness.
